John and Paula Swinscoe have a wide range of experience in the motorsports industry, where John’s hands-on motor sport experience has meant a wide knowledge, understanding and application of not only composite part design and manufacture, but also preparation of racing and rallying cars.
John Swinscoe:
1980 – 1983: Completed an apprenticeship in Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanics at Ford & Slater in Nottingham.
1983 – 1988: Started circuit racing with self prepared Lotus 7 Series 2 whilst working at ZF Gears Nottingham.
1987 – 1990: Worked at TVR Sports cars – built and ran Turbo S type and in 1988 built the first 32 of the TVR Tuscans race cars. Ran the works team and for the first 2 years worked with drivers such as Mark Hales, Jeff Allun, Patrick Watts, Gerry Marshall, Tim Harvey, Chris Hodgetts, Jimmy McRae, Tony Dron, Simon Aron & Colin Blower.
1990 – 1992: Left TVR and went to work at Spec Fab, owned by Ex BRM engineer, Dave Lampitt, where he engineered and ran Tuscans, BTCC, Thunder Saloons with Laurance Bristow, Jerry Mahoney, Slim Borgudd and Steve Soper, and also a Prosport 3000 car, winning the first ever race with Eugene ‘O’ Brian.During the time at Spec Fab, John also helped to prepare Matt Neal's BMW M3 when he initially crossed over into the BTCC, and completed more Tuscan races with John Kent & Gerry Marshall, finishing 2nd in the championship and achieving 7 race wins with Gerry Marshall.
1992 – 1996: Continued to race TVR Tuscans but moved to TVR Power in Coventry, running between 6 and 7 Tuscans. During the 93 & 94 seasons won the championship with Mark Hales, achieving 19 race wins in the 2 seasons. During this period John and Paula began road ralling in their MkI Escort, achieving 3rd in class finishes. 1995: Re-employed by TVR Blackpool, where John was asked to build the first Cerbera GT Car paired with Nigel Stroud of Raynard. Designed using pushrod suspension, this car went on to run in the British GT Championship sponsored by Deloitte Touch, driven by Mike Hales and Nick Whales and based at Techspeed in the Midlands. In the same year, John competed in his first stage rally, the Tour of Mull, in his self prepared Escort, being seeded 111 and finishing a very creditable 31st out of a starting field of 150.
1996 – 2001: Moved back up to Blackpool TVR factory and rebuilt the GT racer which was campaigned by Mike Hales and Phil Andrews 3000 driver. The car ran in both the British GT Championship and selected rounds of the BPR endurance championship.
1997 – 1998: After building and running the Cerbera GT Car, John was to help build the fantastic looking 850bhp Speed 12 race car – which competed again in the British GT Championship, driven by Bobby Verdon Roe, Mark Hales, John Kent and Martin Short. The car also featured in 'Jeremy Clarkson - The Most Outrageous Jeremy Clarkson Video In the World...Ever' completing a speed run of 198mph, at the same venue now used for Top Gear.
1999: Established Rallytech with ex TVR body shop foreman and skilled laminator Trevor Lewis, whilst still working at TVR in Blackpool.
2006: Moved to new Premises and took over total control of Rallytech.
TOUR OF MULL - Since 1995 John has been a regular competitor on the Tour of Mull Rally. From his first year of competing in his MkII Escort 1600 when he was seeded 111 and finished 31st, he has seen some dramatic accidents and other spectacular successes! Paula has been his co-driver on most, but not all, occasions.

Paula Swinscoe:
Paula Swinscoe was born and raised in Northern Ireland. With a father who drove his self prepared rally car in the late 60’s and early 70’s, Paula herself was introduced to and became hooked on motorsports at a very early age.
Paula graduated with a BEng (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management from Nottingham University, where she became Vice President of the University Motor Club during her time there. At that time, she developed a particular interest in the manufacturing processes and properties of composite materials, which led to a thesis on the subject, commissioned by TVR Engineering.
Having met John at TVR, she then became heavily involved in the racing team, and soon after she introduced John to the joys of Irish tarmac rallying.
On leaving university, Paula joined Land Rover, where she eventually became Production Manager on the Discovery final assembly line; at that time Paula and John began rallying together, initially road rallying a MkI Escort and later stage rallying a MkII Escort. Their most significant success was 5th place overall on the 2001 Tour of Mull rally.
On moving to Lancashire, Paula took on a variety of roles including Planning, Manufacturing Engineering & Project Management within the Automotive and Pharmaceutical sectors, before joining Rallytech full time in 2005.
