IRC Rally Scotland

The recent Scottish round of the IRC was a major event for Rallytech, with Rallytech’s rally car being used for the first time on gravel, and new Rallytech components being used and tested.

With Rallytech working endless days in the weeks prior to Rally Scotland the events arrival would have been seen to many as a relaxing time away from work for Rallytech Director John Swinscoe, however, this couldn’t have been further from the truth.

With tight deadlines for the production of components before the event this was a actually a nerve racking time for John until the feedback came from several customers at the event.

After huge involvement in the Proton Satria S2000 project with all of the composite parts produced at Rallytech, including the revised lamp pod and corner pods using larger PIAA type lamps all at Rallytech were anxious to see how the car would perform in the hands of ex-WRC rally star Alister McRae and were not disappointed. Rallytech would like to congratulate Alister McRae and the Mellor’s Elliot Team on their podium finish.

New cars like the Fiesta S2000 were used for the first time as course car driven by Matthew Wilson and the M-sport team. This featured Rallytech components including the lamp pod and floor guards. With the first stages of the rally being the night stages, the lamp pod was put to the test straight away!

Following on from a solid finish at Rally Great Britain 2009, Eamonn Boland was on form again at Rally Scotland, finishing 7th overall and 6th in the IRC results, competing in the new model Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, a gravel spec rally car, which uses several of Rallytech’s products jointly developed with Dom Buckley IRS.

Components of Rallytech’s catalogue used included Twintex floorguards, sill guards and arch liners that had already completed 860km/h of rally mileage prior to being used once again on Rally Scotland. The Twintex floorguards were recommended by Rallytech as heavier spec gravel floorguards and showed minimal wear after Rally GB and pre-event testing for both Rally GB and Rally Scotland.

With John and Paula’s rally car making its gravel debut, this was a busy and anxious time for all concerned, but with the car in the capable hands of Willie Bonniwell, this debut would be a very good one. Following problems with punctures and a loss of boost pressure it was an excellent rally with a well fought for finish, 10th overall and 7th in the IRC.
